CenterStage! is the Staunton community’s performing arts series presenting international professional artists in concert.
Founded in 1978, CenterStage! has brought more than 100 music, dance and theater events, representing over twenty countries, to the Staunton stage. Your subscription to this concert series also includes concerts in Waynesboro and Culpeper.
Offering a family-friendly series of five events each season, the programs include a wide variety of classical, jazz, folk and ethnic music and dance. As examples, the instrumental performers have ranged from The Shanghai String Quartet to the Glenn Miller Orchestra to the New John Philip Sousa Band to the Dukes of Dixieland. The varied vocal artists have included The Russian State Chorus, The Swingle Singers and The New Christy Minstrels. Dance programs have included classical and contemporary ballet, jazz and ethnic/folk companies. Each year the series also includes an internationally-renowned, prize-winning pianist in recital.
In addition to the international artists, the CenterStage! series annually presents talented Virginia artists to introduce them to our audience. We also are underwriters of the Christmas season Messiah performance featuring the Staunton-based Ovation Singers and Orchestra.
The programs are presented on the stage of the John Lewis Auditorium at Lee High School on North Coalter St. in Staunton. Admission is by season subscription or by single tickets at the door. Managed by an all-volunteer board, CenterStage! maintains its low admission through the generous support of community sponsors and patrons. Youth attendance is encouraged through artist matinees and master classes which are sponsored by CenterStage! and student admission to the entire series is offered through the school systems, subsidized by CenterStage!
